We shall soon see . . .<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Q 2: Would you eat a hamburger or a milkshake with a warning to &#8220;Contact the Poison Control Center&#8221; if you ate too much?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Monterey County&#8217;s so-called &#8220;Health Department&#8221; in 2003 was taking steps to put a rat poison, called fluoride, in our Peninsula&#8217;s drinking water supply<\/strong> as directed by <strong>a recent and extremely controversial state law<\/strong> that was passed rapidly with little debate or public knowledge !<\/p>\n<p>We want you to be aware of the <strong>best available science on Water Fluoridation<\/strong> and have included links to four powerful articles and links to a dozen articles in mainstream media.<\/p>\n<p>They illustrate four important points &#8212;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fluoride is not safe. Fluoride is highly <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">poisonous<\/span><\/em>, dangerous and even deadly. Fluoride is not a nutrient or a vitamin.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Water Fluoridation <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">damages teeth<\/span><\/em> (mottling) in some 30% of children.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Drinking Fluoridated water, <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">at its very best,<\/span><\/em> has only a <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">tiny<\/span><\/em> <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">statistical<\/span><\/em> benefit on tooth decay, but likely no actual physical benefit.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Fluoride Paste on Teeth is dramatically different than Drinking Fluoride in water.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The four articles are &#8212;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nteu280.org\/Issues\/Fluoride\/NTEU280-Fluoride.htm\" class=\"broken_link\">US-EPA Employees Oppose Water Fluoridation<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CDC (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/fluoridation\/fact_sheets\/cwf_qa.htm\" class=\"broken_link\">US Center for Disease Control and Prevention) &#8220;Community Water Fluoridation: Questions and Answers&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rachel.org\/?q=en\/node\/5319\" class=\"broken_link\"><strong>One article is an overview of the science by Rachel&#8217;s Environment and Health Weekly.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rachel.org\/?q=en\/node\/5319 \" class=\"broken_link\">Fluoridation: Time For A Second Look?<\/a>, 09-May-2001&#8243;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The lead article is put out by a <strong>US-Environmental Protection Agency employees union (scientists, attorneys and engineers<\/strong>) explaining <strong>their strong opposition to drinking water fluoridation<\/strong>, and some critical ethical and public health issues related to the way the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nteu280.org\/Issues\/Fluoride\/NTEU280-Fluoride.htm\" class=\"broken_link\"><strong><em>US-EPA twisted the science<\/em><\/strong><strong> and outrageously abused their authority to allow fluoridation of drinking water. <\/strong><strong>(Click here for EPA article)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>But first let&#8217;s start with the question &#8212;<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Q. What&#8217;s the difference between the fluoride put in drinking water, in toothpaste and rat poison?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>A. Absolutely nothing &#8212; except the intent.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rat poison fluoride is highly toxic, <strong><em>is intended to kill mammals<\/em><\/strong> and it does so easily. <strong><em>Fluoride put in drinking water and toothpaste is chemically identical to rat poison<\/em><\/strong>, but is claimed to &#8220;improve&#8221; tooth health.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1997 <strong>all fluoridated toothpaste is now required to carry a warning<\/strong>, (go take at a look at the tube in your bathroom) which states in part to &#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>keep out of reach of children<\/strong>,<\/span>&#8221; and if you accidentally swallow more than needed for brushing teeth &#8220;<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Contact the Poison Control Center!<\/span><\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Q. How many <strong>foods, nutrients or vitamins do you eat with <\/strong>a warning like that <strong>!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A. None.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Would you eat a hamburger or a milkshake with a warning to &#8220;Contact the Poison Control Center&#8221; if you ate too much?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fluoridation History<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Water fluoridation is typically performed in the U.S. by adding <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jtbaker.com\/msds\/englishhtml\/S3722.htm\"><strong>sodium fluoride<\/strong><\/a>, a waste product of aluminum production, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lciltd.com\/msds\/msdsssf.htm\"><strong>sodium silicoflouride<\/strong><\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lciltd.com\/msds%5Cmsdshfs.htm\"><strong>hydrofluosilicic acid<\/strong><\/a> to drinking water supplies (at 1 ppm).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It is notable that &#8220;90% of the fluoride put into our water supply is not in the form of medical grade sodium fluoride, rather it is the <strong>industrial waste<\/strong> products hydrofluosilicic acid (H2SiF6) and sodium silicofluoride (Na2SiF6), together called \u201csilicofluorides\u201d.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>All three are poisonous in small amounts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In concentrations exceeding 1.5 ppm <strong>Sodium Fluoride<\/strong> &#8220;<strong>may cause mottling of tooth enamel.<\/strong>&#8221; Van Nostrands Scientific Encyclopedia, 1976<\/p>\n<p><strong>Elemental Fluorine is the most reactive element and one of the strongest oxidizing agents known.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Prior to 1945 fluoride was not added to water anywhere in the world <\/strong>though some areas, notably China, have significant amounts of fluoride naturally occurring in drinking water.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Water_fluoridation\">Continental Europe does not practice water fluoridation, yet\u00a0most European countries have experienced substantial declines in tooth decay without its use.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Switzerland, after fluoridating its water for 40 years, just passed a law against Water fluoridation because it has shown no benefit. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Most European countries (including Sweden, Holland, Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria, Denmark) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">forbid adding fluoride<\/span> to drinking water.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110109142909\/http:\/\/www.alaskawellness.com\/archives\/flouride-pt1.htm\"><strong>Separately from fluoride&#8217;s broad array of known cumulative poisonous effects on humans (including <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">arthritis, mutations and <em>death<\/em>),<\/span><\/strong><\/a> water companies may be reluctant to add fluoridation because of the <strong>extreme difficulty in controlling the amount of it in each gallon of water<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Too little Fluoride (less than 1 ppm) and there is <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">no claimed effect upon teeth<\/span>; <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>only slightly more (1.0 to 1.5ppm) and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">fluoride is known to damage teeth<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>MSDS stands for <strong>Material Safety Data Sheet<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Every product for sale or for use in business in United States, which has <strong>dangerous properties<\/strong> (such as poisonous, toxic or deadly effects) legally must have an MSDS sheet. <strong>Products which do not have dangerous properties, such foods, do not need an MSDS sheet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>All of the fluoride products put in drinking water<\/strong> are <strong>well-established, hazardous waste products<\/strong>. Why did the 2002 Monterey County Grand Jury recommend fluoridating our water?<\/p>\n<p>A. Is important to understand that the <em><strong>County Grand Jury willfully refused to look at the science about the dangers on fluoridation<\/strong><\/em> or listen to any toxicity experts.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Grand Jury <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">only looked at one side of the issue<\/span>, the pro-fluoridation side, before making their decision!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although <strong>Debra Diaz<\/strong> of the &#8220;Monterey County Fluoridation Task Force&#8221; seems well intentioned (she seems to genuinely care about protecting the teeth of children from poor families), <strong>her advocacy contradicts all the known science.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She claimed &#8220;<em>Fluoridation is the single most cost-effective way to fight dental disease, and its safe,<\/em>&#8221; and that fluoridation could benefit older people who suffer from root decay.<\/p>\n<p>First, as the above articles explain, fluoridation simply does not realistically fight dental disease, since <strong>fluoridation is not effective at all<\/strong> &#8211; it can not be the most &#8220;cost-effective.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Brushing teeth, flossing and avoiding sugar are the most cost effective methods of preventing tooth decay<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ms. Diaz provided ZERO evidence of water fluoridation&#8217;s benefit to the elderly or concerning root decay.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>And oddly all reference studies to the supposed benefits of of Water Fluoridation are not available to the public.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The only publicly available studies we can find on <strong>water fluoridation<\/strong> related to the <strong>elderly<\/strong> is that it <em><strong>increases hip fractures<\/strong>.<\/em> Hip fractures cause the deaths of some 50,000 older Americans each year.<\/p>\n<p>We urge you to read both sides of the science first (if you can find any supporting water fluoridation), then make your own decision on <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>whether you would like to pay to have known poison added to your drinking water<\/strong><\/span><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>You might ask Ms. Diaz what scientific evidence she is relying upon.<\/p>\n<p>Click here to read <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nofluoride.com\/news.htm\"><strong>Fifteen (15) articles on fluoridation (including &#8211; Newsweek, Wall Street Journal, US News &amp; World Report, Project Censored, Chicago Tribune, San Jose Mercury).<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>An alternative you might consider is how our neighbor <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Santa Cruz <\/span>adopted a local initiative<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> and joined most European countries<\/span> in <em>prohibiting <\/em>drinking water fluoridation <em>and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">non-consensual medication<\/span> of the public.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20030509133321\/http:\/\/www.pesticideinfo.org:80\/PCW\/Detail_Chemical.jsp?Rec_Id=PC34385\"><strong>Chemical Information Center<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20120705212431\/http:\/\/www.fluoridealert.org:80\/health\/accidents\/carton-1994.html\"><strong>Fluoride Accidents &amp; Poisonings<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Update: In 2025 I wrote to a prominent Dentist advocating for Fluoridating Water on NPR. Genuinely asking for him to send me citations for his claimed dental benefits.
