Here’s another letter Carmel Pine Cone Editor Paul Miller<\/strong> refused to print. Miller’s <\/strong>refusal solidly bolsters the closing-line from his own Editorial – which this refused letter responds to –<\/strong><\/p>\n

“… when you\u2019ve already made up your mind about what a story\u2019s supposed to be, the facts can just get in the way.<\/u><\/i>“<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Pine Cone Editor:<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, for your editorial entitled “Wrong again, Ms Kay,”<\/a> simple facts dismiss your absurd and baseless opinion<\/strong> on what is a pesticide.

\nYou claim “a substance that confuses moths … doesn’t come close to qualifying<\/em><\/strong> [as a pesticide].”<\/p>\n

As one of the world’s authorities on pesticides<\/strong> the US-EPA has unequivocally decided<\/strong> the CHECKMATE chemical cocktail<\/strong><\/a> the state Agricultural Dept<\/strong>. sprayed on our community is a Pesticide<\/strong><\/span><\/em> because it is designed, applied and used to murder and extinguish an entire species.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The trivial studies done so far on CHECKMATE<\/strong> has caused US-EPA to forbid its use where farmworkers are working or where it could contaminate streams or tidepools.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Limiting the definition of a pesticide to chemicals which instantly kill a creature is a willfully myopic 1950’s view of biochemistry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since then, we have created chemicals intended to eliminate or limit subsequent generations, while leaving the current generation alive.<\/p>\n

Humans even use one — called “birth control<\/strong>” drugs, used by millions, for decades, and we are still learning about their harmful side effects.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since there is no man-made chemical or pesticide whose side effects are fully understood,<\/strong> it is reasonable to use caution and analyze the potential impacts of any extermination chemical before spraying it on our community of humans.<\/strong><\/p>\n

And that is precisely the reason Judge O\u2019Farrell ruled in HOPE\u2019s favor and required the Governor to prepare an Environmental Impact Report before he lets his Agricultural Dept aerially spray any more people.<\/a><\/p>\n

PS In an email note to another reader who tried to courteously correct his baseless “fact,” The Pine Cone’s Miller responded with the astonishing –<\/p>\n

“I am aware that the pheromone spray is classified as a pesticide by numerous government agencies. However, it is not a pesticide<\/u>.”<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n

With that, lets replay Paul Miller’s last line of his Editorial —<\/p>\n
