{"id":1162,"date":"2011-05-17T21:57:04","date_gmt":"2011-05-17T21:57:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/daviddilworth.com\/pol\/?p=1162"},"modified":"2015-11-01T18:27:59","modified_gmt":"2015-11-02T02:27:59","slug":"nuclear-meltdown-at-fukushima-confirmed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/daviddilworth.com\/pol\/nuclear-meltdown-at-fukushima-confirmed\/","title":{"rendered":"Full Nuclear Meltdowns of 3 Reactors at Fukushima Confirmed !"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Update ! &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20121015110239\/http:\/\/theintelhub.com:80\/2011\/05\/17\/japan-confirms-complete-core-nuclear-meltdown-in-3-fukushima-reactors\/\">Japan admits three nuclear reactors (numbers 1, 2 and 3) reached Full meltdown !<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While most major news media have ignored it, (particularly television) this website and others have been <a href=\"http:\/\/daviddilworth.com\/pol\/?p=1064\">tracking evidence that there was a nuclear reactor meltdown at Fukushima<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.world-nuclear-news.org\/RS-Fukushima_fuel_melt_confirmed-1605115.html\">Saturday May 14th Japanese officials confirmed, and World Nuclear News reported, that Unit 1 at Fukushima&#8217;s Daiichi Plant did experience a nuclear meltdown &#8211; probably on the same day the earthquake struck.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>The oddest thing about this news is that while a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nuclear_meltdown\">nuclear meltdown (which is an extremely serious landmark)<\/a> was predicted by independent experts and denied by the industry &#8211; <u>almost no major US media have reported it, or if they mentioned it &#8211; they buried it or obscured in their articles. There is not a single headline announcing that the nuclear meltdown occurred.<\/U><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nHere&#8217;s the <a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2011\/WORLD\/asiapcf\/05\/17\/japan.nuclear.changes\/\">CNN story<\/a> titled &#8220;<strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>Japan<\/strong> utility sticks to timeline for ending nuclear crisis.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>and even the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/tepco-revises-plan-for-cooling-reactors\/2011\/05\/17\/AFvd7g5G_story.html\">Washington Post<\/a> with the anti-sexy headline &#8220;Tepco revises plan for cooling reactors&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Is the US media trying to bury this story?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.indybay.org\/newsitems\/2011\/05\/14\/18679667.php\">Indymedia reporter Stephen Lendman reached the same conclusion after even deeper research <\/a> writing &#8220;Despite the significance of TEPCO&#8217;s May 12 announcement, the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune ignored it, while <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>New York Times<\/strong> writers Hiroko Tabuchi and Matthew Wald downplayed it, headlining, &#8220;Japanese Reactor Damage Is Worse Than Expected . . .&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>At the same time a Nuclear safety expert from the venerable <a href=\"http:\/\/ucsusa.org\/\">Union of Concerned Scientists<\/a> explained to Congress &#8212; &#8220;In [Nuclear Regulatory Commission] terminology, a <u>severe accident<\/u> is one in which at least some of the fuel melts,&#8221; said Lochbaum. &#8220;In testimony at Congressional hearings, <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>NRC<\/strong> and nuclear industry representatives have claimed that the severe accident management guidelines (SAMG) developed in the wake of reactor meltdown at <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>Three Mile Island<\/strong> would provide reliable protection against the problems faced at Fukushima Daiichi.
