In the several decades I’ve been helping out protecting our environment, I have yet to hear a single person who genuinely obtains significant environmental protection<\/u> (not just talks about it or merely works to do so) call themselves an “Environmentalist.” <\/strong><\/p>\n

The real heroes doing the heavy lifting year after year like Tim Hermach<\/a>, Kieran Suckling and Peter Galvin<\/a>, and Jim Bensman<\/a>\u00a0and their myriad colleagues never say anything like that (and I’ve certainly never claimed to be one.)<\/p>\n

In fact the only people I’ve heard claim to be an “Environmentalist” (however you define it) – clearly are not<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Take George Bush (the 1rst) for example. He claimed to be “The Environmental President.”<\/p>\n

“That’s why I’ll be a big conservation, environmental President, because I plan to fish and hunt as much as I possibly can.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Texas governor Ann Richards exposed that silliness using her slow, Texas, inimitable, dramatic drawl<\/a>\u00a0—<\/p>\n

“You can put lipstick on a hog . . . and call it Monique, . . . but it is still a pig.”<\/strong><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Of course Ann gave it far more power than us merely reading it here. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

So when you hear someone claiming to be an “Environmentalist” (do the names Sandy Koffman<\/a>, Dave Potter<\/a>\u00a0the contractor, and the Developer Dan Cort<\/a> come to mind?) – grab your wallet or purse and hug those trees tight !<\/b><\/p>\n
