Campaign Bribery<\/p><\/div>While the \u201cRobin Hood Tax\u201d is a good short term idea and rallying cry, and \u201cEnding Corporate Personhood\u201d is an even more powerful idea, if we really want to eliminate the “Political Gap<\/a>,” and Restore Democracy<\/strong> we need powerful, substantial changes – now !<\/p>\n We need a law severing money from political decisions; which can be adopted easily and quickly<\/u>.<\/p>\n This is far more powerful than \u201cCampaign Finance Reform\u201d and \u201cPublic Election Financing\u201d which were gutted by two recent Supreme Court<\/strong> decisions (Citizens United<\/a> and McComish v. Bennett<\/a>)<\/p>\n 1. They have received any gift or campaign contribution, and<\/p>\n 2. The donor receives any benefit greater than the public gets.<\/p>\n 3. This needs to prevent contributions and gifts after a vote as well as before one<\/u>. Toppling Lobbyists<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n This would prevent most votes by Congress \u2013 because most bills voted on are those funded by financial interests (such as Wall Street, Polluters, and Loggers).<\/p>\n Here\u2019s an example of this law enacted at a small California town. They didn’t do anything radical, they just combined the strongest laws prohibiting “Legalized Bribery” used in other California towns into one simple yet comprehensive law. <\/p>\n “Campaign Finance Reform: The Battle to Eliminate ‘Legalized Bribery’<\/a>”<\/p>\n It is notable that the two recent and awful Supreme Court<\/strong> rulings (Citizens United<\/strong> and McComish) have no effect on this law.<\/p>\n This law can be adopted as a Federal Law<\/strong> in a matter of days – if Congress and the President are persuaded that it needs to be done.<\/p>\n From the moment this law is signed by the President – no one from Wall Street<\/strong> who wants a corporate benefit can give or promise any election campaign money to any Congressman\/Congresswoman. <\/p>\n And if the corporate donor already contributed to a Congressman – that Congressman can no longer vote on a bill that would enrich that contributor.<\/p>\n One side benefit is that because corporations would no longer benefit from donating campaign contributions, Senators and Congressmen and women will stop arm twisting corporations — for 90 percent of the time they hold office – and maybe have time left over to work on protecting our public interests.<\/p>\n More Reading: Update Oct<\/strong> 22, 2011: Bank of America<\/a> just quietly transfered more than a Trillion dollars in “Derivatives<\/a>” to a BoA<\/a> subsidiary so that when (not if) the Derivatives<\/a> lose all value – the US<\/strong> taxpayers will have to pay for all the Bank Insurance<\/strong> for these fictional funds. <\/p>\n Second small law: Eliminate All US<\/strong> Insurance for Derivatives<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Occupy Solution: How to Stop Legalized Bribery in Congress (c) Copyright 2011 David Dilworth While the \u201cRobin Hood Tax\u201d is a good short term idea and rallying cry, and \u201cEnding Corporate Personhood\u201d is an even more powerful idea, if we … Continue reading
