Getting the Drop on the Friendly CHP (with a squirt gun)
I watched a driver back into my parked car. The driver refused to give me her insurance information, so I reported it to California Highway Patrol.
A courteous officer J. Ramos came out to see the damage. And visited a second time a few days later to deliver me a card with some connection to the crash report that would be “ready in about a week.”
Now however, when I called California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Salinas they refused to email a vehicle Crash report for the driver running into my parked car.
CHP’s tries to claim their refusal is they are somehow concerned about data privacy. Exactly what data they are protecting they wouldn’t or couldn’t explain.
CHP did say they’ll release the report but only if I show up at their office to verify My Identity.
But I wasn’t driving the car — it was parked.
And they have the Car’s Registered Mailing Address from the License Plate.
But they won’t mail it to the Car’s Registered Mailing Address unless I show up to verify my identity.
Let me see if I can make this clear —
“I wasn’t driving the car. It was Parked.”
So CHP should automatically mail it to the address registered for the CAR !
Nope, CHP refused.
One CHP staffer (who continually interrupted and spoke over me while I was trying to explain what I needed) said my Insurance company can get the report.
But no, I persuaded my insurance company to call. And CHP refused to give it to him either.
It gets worse: What the CHP did tell my insurance guy is that they “have no suspect.”
How absurd is that?
I gave Officer J. Ramos the License Plate number of the car which I directly watched run into mine. I saw my car shake from the impact. Officer Ramos talked with the driver, saw the damage on my car, and he presumably saw the damage on her car. All of which I have photographed.
Customer Service – NOT
While calling to get a copy of the report, waiting on hold, instead of music I heard “California Highway Patrol is a high tech modern police force” and something like “We provide the best customer service.“
Well, no. Big No.
CHP gets an “F” – a Failing Grade in Customer Service.
And a Failing Grade for refusing to use “high tech” email to deliver a crash report.
WTH ?!?
Will keep you updated on this “Alice Through the Looking Glass” affair.
